Rumormill: Buick Astra coming in 2011?

Further bolstering rumors that the Buick brand is set to receive rebranded products from GM's European Opel division are reports from GM Inside News indicating that a small car based on the Astra platform – initially planned for the now-defunct Saturn brand – has been

Opel Astra Caravan CNG hybrid with GPS-enabled smart powertrain

After two years of research, Opel and the Institute for Combustion Engines and Motor Vehicles at the University of Stuttgart have developed a CNG-hybrid version of the Opel Astra Caravan. The car uses an all-new 1-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine that manages to produce 97hp and 160 Nm of torque (118 lb-ft). The electric motor was supplied by Bosch and offers 35 kW (48hp), available even in all-electric mode. The coupling of the two motors is similar to Honda's IMA technology, where the elec

Spy Shots: Next Vauxhall Astra caught in the buff

The next Opel/Vauxhall Astra – which may or may not make it to the States as a Saturn – has been caught outside General Motors' testing facility in Germany. The singular spy shot reveals a new greenhouse design, hatch, taillights and rear wing. The Opel Insignia's influence is apparent from the side, where the chunky creases of the curr

Rendered speculation: 2011 Opel/Vauxhall Astra

AutoExpress has produced a couple of renderings of what the next-generation Astra will look like for Opel and Vauxhall. For now, all information we have is the bad image you see to the right, which w

The current Astra is good, and the new one promises to be better, with looks that aren't revolutionary, but nicely done nonetheless. We'll see this world car version of the Astra sometime around 2011 with a variety of drivetrains, including hybrid power. The C-Pillar

Hyundai FD/Arnejs concept

The battle for the hearts and pocketbooks of European C-segment buyers will gain another warrior when the Hyundai's FD/Arnejs concept debuts in Paris. Based off the Kia C'eed 5-door shown in August, the new Hyundai is attempting to out-class and under-cut the stalwarts of mid-grade euro-transport. The Opel Astra, Renault Megane and Volkswagen Golf are the Arnejas targets and hopefully, for Hyundai, they've brought the required comfort and small entry fee to battle in such a competitive segment.

VIDEO: Opel Astra TwinTop hardtop in action

Feast your eyes on the newest member of our Hardtop Convertible Video Collection, the Opel Astra TwinTop. The Astra TwinTop takes the cake when it comes to complexity in design. Note that aside from the fact its retracting hardtop is comprised of three separate, long pieces, the TwinTop’s design also automatically flips the trunk lid up to store the three-piece top and puts in motion the rear deck behind the sea
